Don’t worry, friends, this is a slap-free zone (how’s that for topical humor?). Today we’re looking at items bearing the Will Smith name.
I didn’t even realize before now that not only have there been multiple athletes with that name, there are two of them playing right now in Major League Baseball. Let’s star there.
Will Smith #1 is the current Los Angeles Dodgers catcher and, as of this posting, has been voted to the All-Star Game twice. Here he is with the core of Dodgers stars that hope to claim a championship this season:
MLB’s other active Will Smith is a 12-year veteran who is currently on the Kansas City Royals’ pitching staff. He claimed the notable achievement in 2023 of becoming just the third player to play for three different World Series winners in as many seasons when he led the Texas Rangers bullpen with 22 saves. He also earned rings with the Astros in 2022 and the Braves in 2021.
Here’s a fun Will Smith card that predates his Major League career. It’s a 2009 card from his brief stint with the Class A Cedar Rapids Kernels.
Our third Will Smith was a first-round pick of the NHL’s San Jose Sharks in 2023 and was a standout at Boston College. He has not yet made his league debut, so here’s a 2024 card of Smith repping the USA at the 2024 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships:
Our last Will Smith spent nine years with the New Orleans Saints at defensive end and linebacker. Here he is during the Saints’ Super Bowl-winning 2009 season (apologies for the blurry image, if someone has a clearer one please leave a comment below):
