The 2021-22 EFL League One season has drawn to a close and it’s time to recognize the clubs that will be leaving via promotion for the EFL Championship. This year the League One promotion winners were Wigan Athletic and Rotherham United on points and Sunderland from winning the playoffs.
Rotherham is returning to the Championship just one season after relegation, while for Wigan it was only two seasons spent in League One. Sunderland, meanwhile, had the longest spell of the three promotion winners; it’s been five seasons since they were last in the EFL Championship.
