College Football Flashback: Alabama vs. Oklahoma Bowl Games

This season’s bowl game slate is set, and Alabama will take on Oklahoma in the 2018 Orange Bowl. This year that game also serves as one of the two College Football Playoff semifinal games.

This will be just the fourth bowl contest between the Crimson Tide and Sooners, with the series currently split at 1-1-1. Here is a quick look back at the first three games:

1963 Orange Bowl

Bear Bryant’s Crimson Tide, led by rookie QB Joe Namath, scored two touchdowns in the first half and never looked back. Final: Alabama 17, Oklahoma 0.

1970 Astro-Bluebonnet Bowl

The Sooners gained a 21-7 lead in the 2nd quarter after Greg Pruitt rushed for his second touchdown, but it was Alabama who took a late lead thanks to a 25-yard TD pass from RB Johnny Musso to Scott Hunter. Bruce Derr kicked a late Oklahoma field goal to even the score. Final: Alabama 24, Oklahoma 24.

2014 Sugar Bowl

2014 SUGAR BOWL

Alabama came into this game as 17.5-point favorites, but someone forgot to tell the Sooners. QB Trevor Knight, who earned MVP honors, threw for 348 yards and four TDs. Final: Oklahoma 45, Alabama 31.
