I attempted on my other site to start a tracker for British Premier League managers, but I did not expect it to become a part-time job. So let’s take a crack at tracking the tenure of NFL head coaches and see how long that lasts.

The idea here is simple: Every so often or when a job change necessitates it, I’ll publish an updated graphic displaying how long every active NFL head coach has been in his job (in days). The longest-serving coaches, such as New England’s Bill Belichick or Green Bay’s Mike McCarthy, are up top. Down at the bottom are the seven head coaches hired in the last offseason — Rex Ryan (Buffalo Bills), Todd Bowles (New York Jets), Jack Del Rio (Oakland Raiders), Jim Tomsula (San Francisco 49ers), John Fox (Chicago Bears), Gary Kubiak (Denver Broncos), and Dan Quinn (Atlanta Falcons).

NFL Head Coach Tenure Tracker (Updated September 30, 2015)

What’s interesting here is that you can clearly see the hiring pattern from the last few years. You’ve got seven coaches hired at the same time in 2015, seven left from 2014, five from 2013, three from 2012, and two from 2011. After that it gets progressively less clustered.

I’ll check in again later this year when the first coach gets fired. The Raiders made the first move last year when they fired Dennis Allen after an 0-4 start.
