All in the Family #1: The Gerela Brothers

I decided to kick off my series on sporting families with one of the unlikeliest clans: The Gerela brothers. Longtime NFL fans have no doubt heard of Pittsburgh Steelers placekicker Roy Gerela, who was with the team for their first three Super Bowl titles. Fewer people have heard of his brother Ted, who went north and kicked for the CFL’s BC Lions from 1967 through 1973. A third brother, Metro, staked his claim to fame in the soccer world but did have a very brief stint as a punter with the Montreal Alouettes.
