The 1979 MLB season was a. The American League Championship series featured the Baltimore Orioles and California Angels, while the National League Championship Series was contested by the Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds. In a re-match of the 1971 World Series, the Pirates defeated the Orioles in seven games.
