Today I learned that the Calgary Stampeders aren’t just Alberta’s premier football team, they were also a minor league hockey club as well. And as proof, here is a great program from their 1951-52 season in the Pacific Coast Hockey League (PCHL).<\/p>\n

The Stampeders played in several amateur and professional league circuits from 1938 through 1972, although they suspended operations during World War II. They also stopped for a time in the 1960s, reportedly due to problems with their affiliation with the Chicago Black Hawks.<\/p>\n

Starting in 1950 the team played in Stampede Corral until they ceased operations. The arena was later home to the NHL’s Calgary Flames for three seasons.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
