If there is one city that produced one great sports publication cover after another throughout the 1960s, it’s Houston, Texas. From the pros to college, Space City boasts a treasure trove of illustrated programs, yearbook, and media guides.<\/p>\n

But today I want to hone in one one franchise and one time period — the Houston Astros of the mid-1960s. Starting with their first year of existence (1962), the then-Colt .45s rolled out a series of fun, visually striking covers. This run peaked with the 1968 Astros, although even the post-’68 period has a lot of gems. Each of these covers has fun with National League opponents like the Reds, Pirates, Giants, and Mets, and many of them probably could not be produced now.<\/p>\n
